Collaboration makes us stronger
Heart of Des Moines was founded with one purpose: To elevate nonprofit consulting in Central Iowa.
Who we are
We believe we are stronger together, and by working collaboratively, we can make a positive difference for our nonprofit clients.
As a coalition, our goal is to ensure the investment nonprofits and their funders make in our professional services is valuable and moves their organization forward in a meaningful way.
Our mission is to build a collaborative professional network with diverse expertise to support Des Moines-area nonprofit organizations while contributing to the growth of the larger community.
Our vision is for a thriving and continually growing nonprofit sector in Des Moines that is fundamentally collaborative instead of competitive, and that supports the health and well-being of the entire community.
Our membership-based organization is made of experienced professionals who specialize in consulting with nonprofits. Our coalition is focused on:
Educating ourselves and others on best practices for nonprofit organizations;
Sharing resources with ourselves and others;
Building a professional referral network of nonprofit consultants.
While our coalition does not exist to provide free services, we are committed to offering a trusted resource for finding well-respected, knowledgeable consultants in Central Iowa.
Our history
Heart of Des Moines was founded in 2019 by professionals who are passionate about the value of nonprofit work in our community. During the pandemic, we continued our collaboration remotely. In 2022, we began holding meetings at the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines thanks to their generous support and encouragement of our coalition.
Nearly all of our members have worked in the nonprofit or business sectors for 10 or more years. Each Heart of Des Moines member has been vetted by our leadership team to ensure they have successful experience providing consulting services for various organization.
